KPop Demon Hunters star Ji-young Yoo has an intriguing and traditional concept for a prequel to the popular animated film.

“I love Pansori, the traditional Korean singing,” Yoo shared. “Ejae incorporates that style in the movie’s intro with her almost wailing vocals, so I would love to explore ancient dynastic Korea. I’m also captivated by the period from the late 1800s to 1945, during the Japanese occupation of Korea. I’m not sure if that would fit as a family film – it might be quite serious – but I would be very interested in that era for KPop Demon Hunters. That could be our Andor.”

KPop Demon Hunters follows a girl group called Huntr/x, who use their vocal powers to protect the world from demonic forces. They face off against the Saja boys, a rival boy band that is actually composed of demonic entities. Yoo voices Zoey, the main rapper and lyricist for Huntr/x, who also showcases some impressive throwing knife skills in battle.

The hit Netflix film is currently the platform’s most-watched original movie, surpassing 500 million views before the end of 2025 and still gaining traction. A sequel, KPop Demon Hunters 2, has already been announced (though it won’t release until 2029), and given the film’s massive success, a prequel seems highly likely.
