If you thought a Jar Jar Binks comic wouldn’t reveal much about Grogu’s mysterious past, think again. This unexpected source sheds light on Baby Yoda’s backstory and his survival during Order 66.

In a flashback from The Mandalorian season 3, we learn that it was Ahmed Best’s Jedi, Kelleran Beq, who rescued the youngling from the Jedi Temple, escaping in a Naboo cruiser with assistance from the Naboo Royal Guard.

The comic, co-written by Best and Marc Guggenheim, finally connects Naboo to Grogu’s rescue, as reported by The HoloFiles.

In the story, Jar Jar and Kelleran Beq join forces on a mission and express their concerns about Palpatine. They ultimately establish a secret communication method using a fractal radio, reminiscent of what we see in Andor.

While the details are left to interpretation, it’s easy to infer why Naboo played a crucial role in Grogu’s rescue—Jar Jar, being a native of Naboo and a Senate representative, likely sent the cruiser and Royal Guards to save as many as possible during Order 66. The HoloFiles also notes that the ship Kelleran and Grogu use to escape Coruscant resembles The Heyblibber Duck, Jar Jar’s own cruiser.

The connection is even more poignant considering that Best portrays both Kelleran Beq and Jar Jar Binks, and he co-wrote the comic.

Next on the horizon for Star Wars is Maul – Shadow Lord, which will explore Darth Maul’s journey between The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Following that, Grogu will return in The Mandalorian and Grogu, marking Star Wars’ return to theaters for the first time since 2019.
