Is there trouble brewing? Perhaps. Trouble in Doll Town? Definitely. With just 24 hours to go before the viral horror game Welcome to Doll Town is set to launch on February 13, its developer is still in the dark about whether it will get the green light from Valve. Lately, solo developer Bad Wish Games has taken over my social media feed with clips of Doll Town, a chilling adventure where a young girl named Yumi explores an abandoned town that once produced lifelike dolls. “Doll Town now rots in silence and shadows,” reads the game’s Steam description—but it seems that silence and those shadows are causing issues for Valve and other digital storefronts. In a February 11 post on Twitter, Bad Wish expressed concern: “I may have bad news. @Steam has been completely avoiding me for days now, and with less than 24 hours until the release of Welcome to Doll Town, they still haven’t validated the submission for public release.” The developer added, “There’s nothing I can do at this point. The game is fully ready, fully translated, and fully playable. They aren’t responding to my support tickets, and they haven’t reviewed my build… I’m stuck.” “Prepare for a potential delay until further notice,” they concluded. “I sincerely apologize in advance.” The developer also mentioned that Doll Town was “refused” by itch.io for exceeding its storage limit, as well as by distributor GOG. “Jesus, dude, is there a nuke in your game?” one fan quipped.
