In The Sims 4: Royalty & Legacy expansion, a new realm awaits where you can explore your social status, noble rank, and dynasty ambitions, all while navigating the climb to the top (and maybe stepping on a few toes along the way). Amidst the drama, you’ll encounter new mysterious events known as Power Shifts. From pulling the legendary “Simcalibur” sword from a stone to kissing frogs that transform into potential romantic partners, Power Shifts often draw inspiration from fairy tales, though not all are benevolent. One such Power Shift, Anansi’s Trials, encourages mischief, deceit, and the sharing of secrets. This clever spider character rewards those who embrace their naughty side, allowing you to weave your own web and unlock a new Trait. In the world of Ondarion, part of the Royalty & Legacy expansion, visit the Darong Dynasty residence in Dambele, a grand mansion also known as Dambele Palace. Once you arrive, veer slightly left from the main residence to discover Anansi’s Well nestled in a courtyard. This unique well features a spider-like structure atop and is surrounded by a web of tiles, with spiders scuttling around that might spook your Sim. To begin your journey, interact with Anansi’s Well by selecting “Examine Anansi’s Well.” A poem will appear: “Anansi, sly weaver of tales untold. Calls forth a Sim both curious and bold. To enter his Trials is to dance with the sly, Where riddles twist under the spider’s eye. The wise earns boons from challenges met, But careless Sims find tangled debt.” This marks the start of your riddle adventure. Next, you can ‘Ask for Anansi’s Advice’ for one Simoleon. While not mandatory, this can provide helpful hints for the trials ahead. Just be aware that you’ll need to wait a bit before seeking more advice, and the tips vary each time. To embark on your first trial, select “Trials…” then “Trial One: Weave a Story.” The riddle reads: “Spin a tale with wit and weight. Speak a story, and let Anansi decide your fate.” You’ll also see a moodlet indicating you’ve started the trial, giving you three days to complete it, so don’t delay! For this riddle, find a Sim and share a story from the “Friendly” interaction menu. You can choose any location, but I opted for Ye Olde Voyager, the new bar in Verdemar. Alternatively, the Backroom lot, which resembles a library with a hidden nightclub below, is a great option. After telling your story, Anansi will judge your performance. Luckily, he seems to appreciate most tales, granting you a Confident moodlet and allowing you to progress to the next trial. Return to Anansi’s Well and select the second Trial. The riddle here is: “Whisper what hides beneath your smile. Hold a secret too tightly and the web may twist, but share it and Anansi’s favor finds you.” It appears Anansi has a fondness for secrets, so it’s time to share one. You can gather secrets in various ways in the Royalty & Legacy expansion. You might choose to “Gossip…” and ask other Sims for secrets (if you share mutual acquaintances), research your family tree in the Family Tree Compendium, or purchase secrets from the Information Broker via computer. Once you share a secret, Anansi will approve, granting you a Fine moodlet and allowing you to move on to the third Trial. Back to the well! For Trial Three, the riddle states: “Weave a trick. Twist a thread. Let another stumble while you rise. Let Anansi judge if you are clever enough to dance in the web.” You don’t need to be part of the Noble career for this trial, but it does unlock a new interaction if you want to explore it. You can “Lie About Royal Lineage” under the Mischief category, or simply “Lie about Career.” Anansi enjoys your deceitful antics, which will lead you to the final Trial. The fourth and final Trial may take a bit longer unless you’re already skilled in Writing. The riddle reads: “Gather the words that linger in your mind, and bind them to the page. If written with excellence, it will endure gracefully in Anansi’s web. This is your final trial.” For this task, you need to write a story, but not just any story—an excellent one. You’ll need to level up your writing skill. I attempted to write a book at levels 1 through 4, but Anansi wasn’t impressed. However, at skill level 5, I crafted a book of “Excellent” quality, finally earning the reward for completing his trials. If you want to skip the writing grind, you can always use Sims 4 cheats to boost your skill level. Upon completing all four of Anansi’s Trials, you’ll receive the Threadshifter Trait. This Trait allows you to shift Favor and redefine your social standing. With this Trait, a new interaction will appear when you click on your Sim, labeled “Shift Favor.” This lets you toggle between Favor with the Commoners and Favor with the Royals, depending on your needs. Just keep in mind that you can’t do this on a whim; there’s a cooldown between each switch.
