The latest PlayStation State of Play has dropped, showcasing a wealth of trailers and major announcements, including the release date for Game Freak’s stunning new RPG, Beast of Reincarnation. First revealed at an Xbox Games Showcase last year, this title marks Game Freak’s debut AAA game outside the Pokémon franchise. While it’s not an open-world experience, it promises a rich variety of environments, as director Kota Furushima has highlighted. Fans won’t have to wait long, as Beast of Reincarnation is set to launch this summer on August 4.

If you’ve missed the buzz, Beast of Reincarnation features a companion as you traverse its map, but that’s where the Pokémon similarities end. The game ditches turn-based combat for fast-paced hack-and-slash action reminiscent of titles like Nier.

However, don’t expect a Soulslike challenge. Game Freak has assured players that the difficulty options will cater to all skill levels, allowing for a tailored experience.

“We’ve designed it to be enjoyable for those who may not excel at action games,” director Kota Furushima explains. “You can select your difficulty level, so I suggest starting on a lower setting if you’re uncertain. With the skill trees and the support from Koo, players can discover their own strategies that effectively ease the challenge.” If you’re on the hunt for more games to add to your wishlist, check out our roundup of the best new titles coming this year and beyond.
