Jetpack Cat, also known as Fika, has quickly become one of the most banned characters in Overwatch. But trust me, taking down this flying feline support hero is easier than it looks.
Blizzard Entertainment has resurrected the Jetpack Cat concept, which was shelved nearly a decade ago, as part of the game’s major rebranding back to Overwatch, introducing her alongside four other new heroes.
Jetpack Cat has rapidly gained popularity among fans and is a frequent target for bans. She’s always airborne, can tether allies across the map, provide area-of-effect healing, and unleash paw-shaped projectiles that deal damage and healing. Her tethering ability has led to some wild plays—imagine a flying cat transporting an exploding D.Va bomb or a deadly sniper. What makes her particularly tricky is her capacity to flank, eliminate unsuspecting foes, and escape before anyone can react. Think of her as a flying Tracer, but with an even tinier hitbox.
The frequency of Jetpack Cat bans in competitive matches has become such a running joke that Blizzard even chimed in with a playful tweet: “NO BAN JETPACK CAT PLZ,” accompanied by an adorable image of the new support hero. How can you resist that face?
I’ll admit, the cat might need some adjustments to her 1v1 capabilities, and that’s coming from someone who’s been having a blast playing her this week. But if you’re having trouble countering her, here are a few tips.
The key to dealing with Jetpack Cat is to engage her from a distance. Her most effective 1v1 tools, her purr and claws, are close-range health drains, so hitscan characters like Ashe or Emre will have an easier time against her. However, the ultimate counter to Jetpack Cat is another Jetpack Cat; the player who lands the first shot or claw swipe usually comes out on top. And don’t forget, you can still shoot her while she’s airborne, even if she’s caught you in her ultimate ability.
