When the trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu was first revealed, fans noticed an intriguing detail – Din Djarin was once again piloting the Razor Crest, despite its destruction in season 2. Now, we have some insights into this surprising return for the upcoming film.

“[Din’s] in the Razor Crest now, which is the ship he originally had. He’s in the same model of ship,” director Jon Favreau explained at the New York Toy Fair this week, where official merchandise from the movie was showcased.

Among the merchandise was a model of Mando’s ship, confirmed to be called the Razor Crest (though not the original). The only distinguishing feature on the toy is a few yellow paint markings on the new ship’s hull.

In our analysis of The Mandalorian and Grogu trailer, we noted that Mando and Grogu seemed to have a new vehicle, which definitely wasn’t their N-1 starfighter from season 3 and resembled their old Razor Crest. With Favreau’s recent comments and the toy reveal, it’s clear that the Razor Crest is back with minimal design changes.

This raises the question: why was it destroyed in the first place only to return with the same design and name? Regardless of the reasoning, it’s great to see the ship back in Mando’s possession.

Set to release in spring, the Star Wars film features Pedro Pascal as the iconic Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin, alongside Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White, who portrays Rotta the Hutt.

According to the official synopsis, “The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to safeguard everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu.”

The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters on May 22, 2026. Until then, keep up with everything else the galaxy far, far away has in store with our guide to all the upcoming Star Wars movies and shows.
