The first trailer for Netflix’s new horror series, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, has arrived, hinting at a chilling journey into marriage inspired by genre classics like Carrie and Rosemary’s Baby.

Following the finale of Stranger Things last month, The Duffer Brothers return as executive producers for this new series, with Haley Z. Boston as showrunner. Camila Morrone stars as Rachel, the bride, while Adam DiMarco from The White Lotus plays her fiancé, Nicky.

According to the official logline, “Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen is an atmospheric horror series set at a wedding, following a bride and groom in the week leading up to their ill-fated nuptials. That’s not a spoiler – just read the title.”

The trailer shows the couple on a road trip to Nicky’s affluent family’s vacation home before their wedding, but things take an unexpected turn. “Prone to superstition and paranoia,” the synopsis adds, “Rachel can’t shake the nagging feeling that something bad is going to happen. Her growing doubts, combined with a series of unsettling coincidences and shocking surprises, lead her to question: What makes two people soulmates? And worse – what could be scarier than a lifelong commitment to the wrong person?”

Each episode tracks a single day leading up to the private ceremony, with Rachel’s paranoia and superstitions intensifying as strange occurrences unfold.

Joining Morrone and DiMarco are Jennifer Jason Leigh as Nicky’s mother, Ted Levine from The Silence of the Lambs as Dr. Cunningham, Jeff Wilbusch as Jules, Karla Crome as Nell, and Gus Birney as Portia.

Boston, known for her work on shows like Baby Reindeer and Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, describes the series as an exploration of “the fear of marrying the wrong person through a horror lens.” The aim is for viewers to “feel the paranoia and fear that Rachel experiences,” intentionally crafting the show to reflect her discomfort.
