Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Now Achieves 60FPS on Switch 2
Metal Gear Solid 4 may still be on the horizon, but Konami is keeping the momentum going with the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1. The latest update has rolled out some significant enhancements, including improved HD resolutions for select titles and a performance boost that allows the more demanding games to hit 60fps on the Switch 2.
The standout upgrades are for Metal Gear Solid 1 and Snake Eater, which now feature expanded resolution options. Players can choose between “original,” “high,” or “max” resolutions. However, there are some reports that the enhanced HD textures in the original Metal Gear have introduced a few visual quirks.
Additionally, the new patch allows players to swap the confirm and cancel buttons in the settings menu and introduces key binding options for mouse and keyboard on PC. For Metal Gear Solid 3, the texture pack comes with a hefty 60GB install size, enabling a significant boost to near-4K resolutions.
The most exciting aspect of this update is its impact on the Nintendo platform. While the Switch 1 version had its shortcomings, the Switch 2 version can now run Metal Gear Solid 2 and Snake Eater at approximately 60fps, moving away from the previous 30fps cap. This upgrade also provides a variety of options for customizing internal resolution and upscaling outputs for both gameplay and cinematics, allowing fans to strike a balance between the classic aesthetic and modern performance expectations.
The initial launch of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 left much to be desired, especially considering the legacy of the games. However, Konami has been steadily improving the experience over the past two years with multiple updates. The Switch 2 upgrade is the final touch, aligning performance with that of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions. Now, I can confidently recommend it to anyone interested, especially since it’s currently 30 percent off across all platforms.
