IO Interactive, known for the Hitman series, seems like a perfect fit for a James Bond game, and they’ve been clear about their vision for 007: First Light. They don’t want it to be just a Hitman game with Bond as the lead. The studio has also stated that the game won’t follow the Uncharted action-adventure formula, leaving fans curious about the gameplay style.

In a conversation with Game Informer, Gameplay Director Andreas Krogh discussed how the stealth mechanics in 007: First Light will differ from those in Hitman.

“Hitman approached stealth as a puzzle design,” Krogh explained. “We’re bringing that same stealth concept to Bond, but with a key difference: we aim for continuous forward momentum in both combat and stealth.”

“In Hitman, we encouraged players to take their time to assess situations and experiment. In Bond, while you can observe, there are clear options available right from the start, allowing you to act quickly and see the results. We want to minimize decision-making time to keep the action flowing and maintain a faster pace.”

This makes sense. While Agent 47 and James Bond share some similarities, the 007 franchise is renowned for its high-octane chases and explosive moments, whereas Hitman games typically adopt a more methodical pace. It seems IO is committed to honoring the unique essence of each franchise.

007: First Light will introduce a fresh approach to Bond games by incorporating slower-paced moments: “Players might be surprised at how much they enjoy those quieter experiences.”
