David Hayter Returns as Snake in Rainbow Six Siege, Teaming Up with Splinter Cell’s Sam Fisher
Metal Gear Solid’s iconic bandana-wearing hero, Snake, is joining forces with Splinter Cell’s Sam Fisher and the entire roster of Rainbow Six Siege as the tactical shooter’s latest operator. After hinting at this collaboration earlier in the year, Ubisoft has finally unveiled a reveal trailer showcasing these two titans of video game stealth teaming up to take down foes.
The Solid Snake Operator will make his debut in R6 Siege with Operation Silent Hunt, launching on March 3. A major point of curiosity surrounding this crossover was whether David Hayter, the original voice of Konami’s legendary character created by Hideo Kojima, would reprise his role for this unexpected project. The new trailer confirms that he is indeed back, much to the relief of fans, though many still hope for Michael Ironside to return as the voice of Sam Fisher. Unfortunately, that seems to be out of the budget.
In the reveal trailer, we see Snake doing what he does best—sneaking around corners and eliminating enemies with a silenced weapon, followed by deploying a smoke grenade and executing takedowns. Sam Fisher makes a cameo at the end, and the two share a Predator-style embrace, with Snake humorously noting that “soldiers like us” never get a moment’s peace as a new alert flashes on his pager.
Rainbow Six Siege currently boasts over 70 operators, with Sam Fisher, codenamed “Zero,” having been introduced back in 2020 during Operation Shadow Legacy. The game has seen various crossover collaborations in the past, featuring franchises like Assassin’s Creed, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, and Halo. While it may not reach Fortnite levels of branded content, Siege’s developers have recognized the lucrative potential of licensed cosmetics over traditional in-game gear.
Snake’s arrival is perfectly timed to capitalize on the buzz surrounding last year’s Snake Eater remake and the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4 remaster, part of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 set to release in August. While it remains uncertain if Konami will ever give Snake a new adventure, the franchise continues to thrive on modern platforms. In contrast, Splinter Cell’s future is less certain, with a remake still unannounced and over a decade passing since the release of Blacklist.
