In a surprising twist, a player in Mewgenics has managed to prevent a boss from appearing in a fight, all thanks to an overwhelming swarm of flies.
Mewgenics is packed with bizarre synergies that can lead to some truly powerful combinations. It’s not every day you hear that “Crohn’s Disease has excellent synergy,” but it turns out that a cat that randomly drops poop all over the arena pairs perfectly with an item that turns any poop into a sentient ally.
One user on the Mewgenics subreddit has stumbled upon a synergy so potent that it sends bosses running for the hills. They shared, “Turns out you win automatically if the boss can’t spawn!” along with a screenshot showing a battlefield teeming with flies, while the boss—a single baby spider—cowers in the corner, too scared to engage.
The user detailed the synergy responsible for this phenomenon, which hinges on the Butcher Collar’s ability to generate and control flies. The Butcher’s Duke of Flies passive transforms every food pickup on the map into a fly, while the Incubator spawns flies whenever you heal beyond your maximum HP. The Butcher+ skill allows you to eliminate any unit with 3 or fewer health, healing you for 5 health each time. Since flies typically have 1HP, this combo wipes out your own flies, heals you, and floods the battlefield with even more flies.
Anyone familiar with The Binding of Isaac knows that the right synergy can make the game a breeze, turning even the toughest bosses into mere obstacles. Mewgenics seems to carry on this tradition with even more outrageous combinations. However, since “one baby spider” is a standard enemy that evolves into a larger boss once defeated, it’s unclear if this strategy can prevent other bosses from showing up. Still, you can definitely unleash some serious damage with your fly army.
Animal Crossing may have retired Mr. Resetti, but his fiery spirit lives on in the indie roguelike sensation Mewgenics, which isn’t shy about calling you out for save scumming.
