Ubisoft is taking note of player feedback regarding the new soundtrack for Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition and is exploring potential solutions.
This edition was meant to be a fantastic tribute to the beloved mascot platformer, featuring five versions of the game (MS-DOS, PS1, Atari Jaguar, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance), a lost SNES prototype, a virtual museum, and a documentary from Digital Eclipse, known for their exceptional work in creating interactive historical content.
Unfortunately, the celebration hasn’t gone as smoothly as hoped, with the game currently holding a ‘Mixed’ rating on Steam, boasting only 53% positive reviews. A significant number of these critiques focus on the newly composed soundtrack by Christophe Héral, known for his work on Rayman Origins and Legends. The consensus seems to be that while the new music isn’t necessarily bad, it doesn’t capture the essence of the original, as reflected in numerous discussions on Reddit and Discord.
One player noted, “Really good ports of these games,” but lamented that “without the option to switch to the original soundtrack,” it “kinda brings it down a lot for me.”
Ubisoft has been actively engaging with players on Discord regarding the updated soundtrack, with one team member acknowledging the community’s sentiments about the new arrangement not resonating with them and expressing appreciation for the suggestion to reinstate the original music. They assured players that “the proper team will have a look at this.”
Additionally, some players have reported a bug preventing them from saving in certain versions of the game. However, it seems that post-launch support for the collection is ongoing, so there’s a good chance fans will see the fixes they’re hoping for soon.
While the Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition has its merits, I’d still recommend experiencing the PS1 original on its native hardware.
