Let’s Hope We’re Not Facing Annual Releases of Resident Evil Games

I really hope Capcom doesn’t derail the excitement for Resident Evil Requiem with a yearly release schedule. In a surprising twist, someone has modded Goku into Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. And you wouldn’t believe how frustrated God of War’s creator is about the new 2D God of War: Sons of Sparta game. This is your daily dose of gaming news, rumors, and culture, packed with all the juicy drama!

Let’s take a moment to reminisce about some classic games. Remember Radiata Stories? That was a gem! Here’s a chat with its development team, featuring director Naoki Akiyama, who hasn’t been involved in a new project since. It’s one of the few JRPGs that dared to let you kick kids. “Radiata Stories is meant to feel like these characters are truly living in this world, and for that, kicking seemed like the perfect interaction,” he explained.

A recent leak from a well-known insider suggests that the next installment in the Resident Evil series, likely not called RE10, is set to be shorter than usual. Currently, it’s aiming for a 2029 release, but delays could push it to 2030 or even 2031, depending on the development process. Meanwhile, DLC for RE9 has been in the works.

This leak hints at a relentless wave of zombie-slaying action. Some fans might think this unverified rumor sounds too good to be true, and honestly, it might be a bit much. Hype for Resident Evil Requiem is through the roof, not just because Leon is back and previews have been solid, but also because it’s been five years since the last mainline entry, Resident Evil Village, and three years since the last remake, Resident Evil 4.

In a gaming landscape flooded with titles, four remakes and sequels in four years might look impressive on paper, but it feels excessive for a franchise that’s currently thriving. We all remember what happened the last time Resident Evil faced overexposure.

After a tough couple of years, Respawn Entertainment’s battle royale is gearing up for rapid improvements and new content, including two new characters set to join in 2026. However, this roadmap doesn’t include any wild crossover skins.

“When we’re designing skins, we try to keep the Legend’s personality in mind,” said lead Legend designer Brett Marting. “We haven’t always nailed it, but we do our best to ensure that the skin matches the character’s vibe. If we miss that, it can break the immersion for players.”

The Sega kart racer continues to challenge Smash Bros. with its growing roster of crossover characters, but where licensing deals fall short, modders step in. Recently, someone swapped out a Monkey Ball character for Kid Goku riding his Nimbus cloud, and it looks fantastic.

Despite ongoing speculation, fans have been repeatedly told that the game will never be ported to Xbox. Insomniac Games has reiterated that its Spider-Man titles coming to Xbox remains “unlikely.”

David Jaffe, the director of the original 2005 God of War, has some harsh words for the new spin-off, God of War: Sons of Sparta, which was shadowdropped at a recent PlayStation showcase. This Metroidvania focuses on Kratos’ backstory before he becomes the iconic god. Jaffe didn’t hold back in a recent video.

“Every time you make a new game, you don’t have to say, ‘Let’s not revisit the beloved character that built this franchise. Let’s see him as a little kid, some generic boring little kid,’” he criticized. “It’s insulting to the fans and to those who worked on the games to think this is what people want. It’s just bad. I’d say steer clear of this.”

Additionally, some Steam reviewers have accused a recent release of being an overpriced collection of ROMs running in an emulator. Players have also found that the Atari Jaguar and MS-DOS versions of the classic Ubisoft platformer don’t save progress. When someone reached out to customer service for help, they were told that post-launch support had already ended for the three-day-old game. Fortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
