Fortnite’s Wild New Action Figures Have Me Hooked!

When non-gamers discover how much time I’ve logged in Fortnite, they often ask what keeps me hooked. Over the years, I’ve shared countless reasons, but it always circles back to one simple truth: Fortnite is like a digital toybox filled with my favorite action figures. Now that NECA is transforming those digital characters into actual collectibles, I’m left wondering what to do next.

At the recent Toy Fair in New York, NECA announced its collaboration with Epic Games to launch a line of Fortnite action figures, each bundled with a digital code for in-game use. Details on what the code unlocks are still pending, but it’s an exciting development.

Let’s be real: there’s no shortage of Fortnite toys available, from Lego sets to Peely figures and Nerf blasters. However, NECA is taking it a step further by creating action figures of iconic characters as they appear in the game.

Fortnite’s ongoing crossovers keep the game fresh, introducing beloved fictional characters and real-life figures at a steady pace, which means my digital toybox just keeps expanding (rumors suggest that Solo Leveling might be joining the fray soon). But now I’m faced with the dilemma of what to do with physical versions of these digital avatars.

Honestly, I want them. When I first heard about these figures from a friend, I thought it might just be a blatant cash grab. But then I saw them, and while I can’t deny that it’s a cash grab — of course it is — I’m already reaching for my wallet. I might not collect every figure in this line, but I definitely need the ones featuring my go-to skins. (Note: All the announced figures are from my regular rotation, so this could get pricey.)

To kick things off, NECA unveiled its Fortnite x Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line, launching with five figures: the four turtles and Shredder. These figures, based on Fortnite-exclusive designs that appeared in the shop as recently as December, perfectly capture the essence of the Fortnite skins and would make a fantastic addition to any TMNT fan’s NECA collection. They’re really testing my resolve on Fortnite’s Ninja Turtles. I used to be a completist for the TMNT figures based on the live-action films, but that changed when they released a playset based on a deleted scene. I simply don’t have the space or budget for that. Yet here I am, debating whether to get just Donatello or all four turtles. And if I go for the turtles, I might as well grab Shredder too, right?

There’s definitely room for this Fortnite figure line to expand, as there are plenty of cosmetics to draw from. Beyond these five, Fortnite has previously released figures of Splinter, April O’Neil, Casey Jones, Bebop, Rocksteady, Krang, and Super Shredder. Even if the line stopped here, a complete Fortnite x TMNT collection would look stunning on display.

But it’s not just Ninja Turtles fans who are getting some love from NECA. The company also introduced a trio of horror icons reimagined in Fortnite. The first wave of Fortnite horror figures features Michael Myers from Halloween 2 (complete with an emote keyboard), Billy the Puppet from Saw, and Leatherface from Texas Chain Saw Massacre, who comes with Peely’s skin as a back bling. Unlike the existing Ultimate NECA figures of these characters, the Fortnite versions have a more cartoonish style with less detail. Plus, in a chilling twist, Billy the Puppet is the same height as Michael and Leatherface — a concept that could easily find its way into a future Saw film.

With NECA’s extensive roster of action figures, there’s bound to be a lot more on the horizon in the coming months and years. If they can produce four different Casey Jones figures from the same 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie — one of the reasons I stopped collecting that line — then there are no limits for Fortnite. We could even end up with multiple Michael Scott figures based on Fortnite’s crossover with The Office. So, whatever you do, be mindful of your purchases, or you might find yourself in my shoes: staring at a mountain of action figure boxes in the closet, wondering how you got there… before deciding to just jump back into Fortnite instead.
