A common critique of Battlefield 6 has been the map sizes, with players missing the expansive environments the series is known for. The developers are aware of this feedback and, following the launch of Season 2, are considering player requests, though it’s not a straightforward fix.
Phil Girette, a producer on Battlefield 6, shared insights on the challenges of implementing changes. “We hear that feedback loud and clear,” he noted. “Adding more maps is definitely something we’re looking into. However, creating maps is one of the most time-consuming aspects of development, so we’ll need more time.”
He highlighted that Season 2 includes two maps, one of which is larger than usual. This aligns with the goals of EA and the Battlefield studios to enhance the shooter experience, but achieving the desired quality is a gradual process.
“We must ensure that the maps meet the quality standards and player expectations,” Girette emphasized. “We’re currently testing Golmud Railway in Labs, which is a positive step forward.”
Indeed, Golmud Railway, a beloved map from Battlefield 4, is being remade for the current game. While it’s still in playtesting, it may take some time before it’s fully revealed and players can see the updates. Nevertheless, it promises to deliver the scale and explosive action that fans are craving.
While Season 2 may not fulfill every expectation for Battlefield 6, it still offers a wealth of content, even if it arrived a bit later than anticipated. With two new modes and a couple of maps, players can expect plenty of chaos as they await future updates.
As Battlefield 6 faces increasing competition from Arc Raiders following the Season 2 delay, the lead developer assures that they are taking various measures to avoid further setbacks: “We need to ensure that everything meets expectations.”
