Martin Scorsese, known for directing 29 feature films that are often hailed as cinematic masterpieces, is stepping into the Star Wars universe. He’ll appear in the upcoming movie The Mandalorian & Grogu as a four-armed monkey food vendor who crosses paths with Pedro Pascal’s Din Djaron, the titular Mandalorian.

This scene is highlighted in the latest trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu, where many fans recognized Scorsese’s distinct voice. The official Star Wars accounts later confirmed his casting on social media.

Scorsese has a history of making cameo appearances, even in his own films, with a standout role as himself in the recent streaming success The Studio. He’s also lent his voice to animated projects, including a role in the 2004 film Shark Tale.

While Scorsese is celebrated for his serious filmmaking that often explores the complexities of the human experience, he also possesses a great sense of humor about his work and isn’t afraid to venture outside his usual style. Based on the brief clip, he seems like a perfect fit for his unnamed Star Wars character, embodying the kind of cameo that has become a hallmark of prestige in its own right.

The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters on May 22. In the meantime, check out our guide to all the upcoming Star Wars movies and shows currently in development.
