A beloved Cartoon Network series is finally arriving on Blu-ray.
It’s been almost 12 years since *Over the Garden Wall* first graced our screens on Cartoon Network. This 2014 miniseries has left a significant mark in the animation realm, making it a perfect choice for autumn viewing with its delightfully eerie atmosphere. It’s even been dubbed the best Halloween show in previous years—it’s that exceptional. While you can catch the series on Hulu, there’s an even better way to ensure you enjoy it annually: *Over the Garden Wall* is set to make its Blu-ray debut in just two months.
The story follows half-brothers Wirt (voiced by Elijah Wood) and Greg (Collin Dean) as they navigate the enigmatic forest known as the Unknown in their quest to find their way home. They encounter a helpful bird named Beatrice (Melanie Lynskey) and the wise Woodsman (Christopher Lloyd), all while facing various challenges. Created by Patrick McHale (known for *Adventure Time*), the series draws inspiration from his short film *Tome of the Unknown*.
Details about the special features for this single-disc release are still under wraps, but Amazon has confirmed an April 7 release date. A previous UK-exclusive Blu-ray edition included episode commentaries, a behind-the-scenes featurette, the original *Tome of the Unknown* short, deleted scenes, and a composer’s cut of the series. It would be fantastic if this new set also included the 2024 stop-motion animated short film, where Wirt revisits his and Greg’s adventures in the Unknown to celebrate the show’s 10th anniversary.
A basic DVD version of the series was released back in 2015, and you can still snag that for under $7 if you’re not keen on waiting a couple of months to own this beloved show.
While *Over the Garden Wall* won’t hit shelves until April 7, it’s currently available for pre-order at $30.99. Now, if only someone could fund McHale’s live-action “spiritual sequel” to *Over the Garden Wall*, everything would be perfect. With this upcoming set and those awesome Mondo figures, he might just be on his way.
