Chris Hemsworth hints that Thor might make a comeback in the upcoming MCU film, Avengers: Doomsday.

“I was chatting with Kevin Feige about it, and he mentioned that it’s exciting because audiences now expect dramatic twists with the character,” Hemsworth shared on the Smartless podcast, noting that the Russo brothers allowed him to “experiment” with Thor in both Endgame and Doomsday. “Whatever we do next – we have some ideas to create something pretty unique again and hopefully different.”

Rumors of a fifth Thor movie have circulated since the release of 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder, which garnered mixed reactions from fans and critics alike. Directed by Taika Waititi, this installment holds the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score among all Thor films, largely due to its comedic tone clashing with Christian Bale’s serious villain portrayal. Waititi has since distanced himself from a potential fifth film, with Hemsworth previously stating that Thor’s future hinges on “where Avengers: Doomsday goes.”

In Avengers: Doomsday, Thor returns with his kids, who are portrayed by his real-life children (who humorously complained about the early call times, among other things). Thor is a character that has significantly evolved through various directions and writing styles over the years, and I’m excited to see a new director take the helm and bring us back to Asgard.

Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18. For updates on Marvel Phase 6, stay tuned for all the upcoming Marvel movies and TV shows on the horizon.
