Skyrim on Switch 2 Gets 60FPS Boost and Bug Fixes in Latest Update

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on Switch 2 is looking and playing significantly better following a recent update that introduced a highly anticipated 60FPS mode along with numerous fixes and enhancements.

In December 2025, Bethesda unexpectedly launched the 15-year-old open-world RPG, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, on the Nintendo Switch 2. However, unlike previous surprise releases in the Elder Scrolls series, the reception for Skyrim on Switch 2 was less than favorable. Players expressed frustration over performance issues, visual glitches, bugs, and a hefty install size. Fortunately, Bethesda has addressed some of these concerns with a new update now available for the hybrid console.

On Tuesday, Bethesda rolled out update 1.2 for Skyrim on Switch 2. The standout feature of this free patch is the addition of a 60FPS performance mode. Additionally, the framerate has been capped at 30FPS when using the “Prioritize Visuals” mode. Both options should deliver a smoother and more stable gameplay experience compared to the previous state of Skyrim on Switch 2.

The patch notes released on February 17 detail various fixes aimed at improving the game’s performance and addressing visual bugs. Notable improvements include enhanced performance in specific areas, such as the Talking Stone giant camp and during combat at Secunda’s Kiss. Issues with water rendering incorrectly from a distance or while navigating menus have also been resolved.

While it can be frustrating that Bethesda sometimes introduces new issues with their classic RPGs through updates and ports, it’s encouraging to see the studio actively working to resolve these problems. And for those on PC, there’s always the option of relying on skilled modders to enhance the experience. However, Switch 2 and other console players remain dependent on Bethesda for fixes.
