Amazon Raises Pokémon Pokopia Price to $80
Companies like Microsoft and Nintendo have been toying with the idea of $80 games recently, and now third-party retailers are testing the waters with this price tag. Currently, Amazon has Pokémon Pokopia listed for $80, but that’s only for the physical edition. The digital version remains at $70, matching the price on the Nintendo eShop. However, physical copies of Pokémon Pokopia, which launched on March 5 for the Nintendo Switch 2, are sold out at retailers like Target and Walmart, indicating a high demand and limited supply—something that sounds familiar from economics class.
Pokémon Pokopia isn’t the first title to hit the $80 mark. Nintendo set the price for Mario Kart World, a launch title for the Switch 2, at $80, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is also listed at that price, while its predecessor, Breath of the Wild, is still at $70. Analysts are speculating that the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 could also debut at $80 or more. With this new pricing trend emerging, it seems like it might soon become the standard.
However, we’re not quite there yet. Xbox Game Studios initially aimed to price The Outer Worlds 2 at $80 but changed their minds after receiving pushback, settling on $70 instead. Even Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, a title from one of the best-selling franchises in gaming, is priced at $70. Other Switch exclusives, like Donkey Kong Bananza, are also available for $70.
As it stands, Best Buy and GameStop have physical copies of Pokémon Pokopia priced at $70.
