Resident Evil Requiem to Receive New Story Expansion and Free Updates, Capcom Announces

Resident Evil Requiem has made quite the splash, and Capcom is already gearing up to expand the experience with downloadable content. Game director Koshi Nakanishi recently announced that a story expansion is in the works, although the specifics are still under wraps.

“We are planning to create additional story content,” Nakanishi shared in a video on the official Resident Evil X account. “This new narrative will explore the world of Requiem in greater depth. We’re currently hard at work on it, so we appreciate your patience and hope you’re excited for what’s to come.”

Story expansions have become a staple for modern Resident Evil titles. For instance, Resident Evil 7 biohazard offered three downloadable add-ons: Banned Footage, Not A Hero, and End of Zoe. Similarly, Resident Evil Village included an extended narrative with Shadows of Rose, while the Resident Evil 4 remake introduced Separate Ways.

In addition to the upcoming story DLC, Nakanishi mentioned that Capcom is planning further updates for the base game of Resident Evil Requiem, which will include a photo mode and “another surprise coming around May.”

“We’re also looking to add a minigame,” Nakanishi noted, though he kept the details under wraps. Given that recent entries like Resident Evil Village and the Resident Evil 4 remake featured the popular Mercenaries mode shortly after launch, it’s likely that Requiem could follow suit.

Before revealing the new story DLC, Nakanishi teased a few slides that hinted at potential minigame concepts, some of which were playful jabs. One slide titled “Forbidden Requiem” humorously suggested that Leon S. Kennedy might appear on a dating show like The Bachelor, poking fun at his enigmatic relationship status. Other slides showcased a card game reminiscent of Inscryption, a Resident Evil-themed puzzle game akin to Candy Crush, and even cat heads for Leon and Grace.

Honestly, none of these ideas sound too shabby!

Resident Evil Requiem is currently available on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
