Balancing the New Overwatch Character is a Challenge for Blizzard

Overwatch’s mid-season patch for Season 1 brings more tweaks to Vendetta, the melee damage hero who’s been a challenge for many players. This update focuses on her lifesteal ability, making a minor adjustment. While Blizzard previously stated that the hotfix at the start of the season balanced most aspects well, they are now looking to refine things further until the next season.

Since her introduction in December 2025 during the last season of Overwatch 2, Vendetta has seen several changes. Adjustments to her powerful abilities, like the overhead attack and Whirlwind Dash, didn’t quite hit the mark. To prevent her from quickly re-entering fights, Blizzard placed Soaring Slice on cooldown upon her respawn. After her hero trial, the lifesteal effect of Siphoning Strike was increased from 30% to 40%, then reverted to 30% after it proved too strong. Now, it’s back to 40%, but Blizzard is elevating it to a major perk that players will unlock later in matches.

“Siphoning Strike has provided significant self-sustain relative to being a minor perk. Moving it to major better reflects its impact while additionally avoiding the overall passive power when combined with relentless,” Blizzard noted in the patch notes.

Vendetta isn’t the only hero receiving adjustments. Mizuki is getting an increased healing range, making it easier for players to support allies while staying safe. The patch also shifts Hazard from the Initiator sub-role passive group to the Stalwart group, which now activates its movement speed boost when the tank’s health drops below 50%. Emre’s special regeneration passive will trigger sooner, and Ramattra’s void barrier shield cooldown has been slightly reduced. Additionally, Illari is being toned down due to her strong performance, with nerfs to her healing uptime and attack speed. Jetpack Cat is also receiving a new minor perk to enhance more mobile play styles.
