Chainsaw Man Manga Set to Conclude Sooner Than Expected
Fans of Tatsuki Fujimoto are in for a surprise, as it has just been announced that part 2 of the Chainsaw Man manga will wrap up in two weeks. A note at the conclusion of chapter 231, released on March 10, reveals that the final chapter will be published on March 24. Since the manga is released bi-weekly, that means only one more chapter remains.
Part 2 of Chainsaw Man kicked off on July 13, 2022. This second segment has sparked some debate among fans, with critiques about the chaotic narratives and shorter chapter lengths. Nevertheless, the series continues to thrive, especially with the introduction of Asa, the new protagonist who hosts the War Devil, injecting fresh energy into the storyline.
Chapter 231 opens with Pochita informing Denji that they have been consumed by a Devil. After transforming into Chainsaw Man, Pochita reveals to Denji that he struggles to experience true happiness, even when he achieves his goals. In a haunting moment, Pochita reflects that Denji was happier at the beginning of the story, when he was surviving by selling his organs and eating spoiled bread. “Turns out you had the crappiest but best kind of brain,” Pochita states. “One that can only find heaven when you’re in hell.” He then consumes himself, effectively erasing Chainsaw Man from existence due to his ability to destroy the Devils he devours. Pochita aims to give Denji a chance to “keep on dreaming,” and the chapter concludes with a view of the same dilapidated shack where Denji began his journey.
With just one chapter left, fans are likely to be left with numerous unanswered questions about the world and lore of Chainsaw Man. However, this is not entirely surprising. Fujimoto is known for his unconventional storytelling, often subverting norms and expectations. His work carries deep emotional resonance while sometimes presenting itself as absurd shonen fantasy. It’s likely that part 2 of Chainsaw Man will be best appreciated upon a second read, especially without the wait between chapters.
Yet, there remains a flicker of hope. A similar message about the final chapter appeared at the end of part 1, suggesting that Fujimoto might be teasing a potential part 3 of Chainsaw Man. For now, fans will have to wait until March 24 to see what unfolds.
