Critical Role Campaign 4 Implements Positive Scheduling Update

Earlier this week, Critical Role announced a fresh approach to long rests in Campaign 4. Traditionally, the cast would take the last Thursday of each month off from their main campaign to recharge before diving back in the following week. Occasionally, they would host a sponsored one-shot or a talk show instead. However, this time around, things are changing.

“Rather than sticking to a fixed last-Thursday-of-the-month break, we’ll pause our dice wherever the story naturally allows,” Critical Role shared on their official blog. “We’ll also be taking breaks around special holidays here in the States!”

Inquiries were made for more details on how episode breaks will function across the different tables in Campaign 4. Unlike previous campaigns with a smaller cast, this one features a rotating lineup of 13 players split into three tables: Soldiers, Seekers, and Schemers. With the West Marches format, each table gets its moment in the spotlight for several episodes before rotating to the next. This raises the question: will breaks occur after a specific number of episodes for each table?

A representative from Critical Role clarified, “There is no set cadence for when these breaks will happen or how many episodes each table will receive.”

Campaign 4 marks a significant evolution in how Critical Role handles breaks, and it’s a positive change. While some fans may feel a bit left out if their favorite table gets less screen time, the decision to rest when the story calls for it will make the live experience feel more dynamic and engaging. There’s nothing worse than getting invested in a storyline only to forget the details during a week-long break. With this new approach, an arc can reach its peak before transitioning to a new narrative thread.

Currently, fans are following the adventures of both the Soldiers and Seekers tables. Next week, on March 19, the Schemers table will take the stage.
