Former Overwatch Director Unveils New Open-World Cowboy Shooter
Ever dreamed of living the cowboy life and claiming your own piece of land? The Legend of California is an indie multiplayer action-survival FPS that makes that dream a reality. Developed by Kintsugiyama and featuring the talents of Jeff Kaplan, a familiar name to Overwatch fans, this game is set to deliver an exciting experience.
Kaplan, known for his work on World of Warcraft and as the lead game director of Overwatch before his departure from Blizzard in 2021, has garnered a dedicated fanbase. The buzz surrounding The Legend of California’s teaser trailer shows that his legacy continues to resonate with players.
Set on a mythical island during a gold rush, this Western-themed multiplayer game allows players to craft, gather, hunt, fight, and build their own communities. Whether you prefer to go solo or team up with friends, the game offers a variety of playstyles to explore.
The trailer showcases intense gunfights and resource gathering in mines, giving The Legend of California a vibe reminiscent of both the Red Dead Redemption and Mafia series.
“We formed our team around a single passion project: The Legend of California,” Kintsugiyama stated on their official website. “After four years of development, we still have a journey ahead, but we’re thrilled to start sharing the world we’re creating with players.”
The Legend of California is set to enter Early Access on PC in 2026.
