Stewie from Family Guy is set to star in a new spinoff inspired by Rick and Morty, 27 years after the show’s debut.

Remember when *Family Guy* was canceled in 2000, only to make a triumphant return and become a cultural juggernaut? Fast forward 25 years, and the satirical comedy is gearing up for another spinoff, this time centered around the diabolical toddler genius, Stewie.

According to reports, Fox has greenlit the spinoff, aptly named *Stewie*, for two seasons. While a specific release date is still under wraps, it’s expected to premiere during the 2027-2028 season, with international audiences able to stream it the following day on Disney Plus and Hulu.

Seth MacFarlane, the voice behind the mischievous toddler in *Family Guy*, will reprise his role in *Stewie*. He’ll also take on the role of executive producer alongside Kara Vallow and Kirker Butler, a writer-producer from *Family Guy*, who will serve as the showrunner.

*Stewie* will air alongside Fox’s other popular comedies, including *Family Guy*, *American Dad* (both created by MacFarlane), *Bob’s Burgers*, and *The Simpsons*.

This new animated series will chronicle Stewie’s escapades in preschool as he navigates time and space. The plot kicks off with Stewie being expelled from his previous preschool and enrolling in a new one that leaves much to be desired, despite featuring a 75-year-old class turtle. As described, “Stewie’s miserable, the other kids are miserable, and even the turtle is miserable… until Stewie begins rolling out his trusty array of devices to take them anywhere in space and time, turning every boring day at school into an insane and surreal adventure.”

Set in its own universe, the series won’t alter Stewie’s storyline in *Family Guy*, though there will be nods to the original series. While the exact number of episodes hasn’t been confirmed, reports suggest it will feature “slightly less than 15 episodes per season.”

This isn’t the first time *Family Guy* has inspired a spinoff; *The Cleveland Show* premiered on Fox in 2009 and, despite a warm reception, only lasted four seasons. Will *Stewie* enjoy a longer run? Only time will tell.
