James Gunn’s Superman sequel will introduce a new Green Lantern.
If you were left wanting more Green Lantern action from John Stewart in the initial glimpse of HBO’s Lanterns series, there’s a silver lining on the horizon with next year’s Superman sequel. Reports indicate that Aaron Pierre, who takes on the role of Stewart in the live-action series, will also feature in Man of Tomorrow, likely delivering the Green Lantern excitement fans have been craving.
In Lanterns, Pierre shares the screen with Kyle Chandler, but instead of a high-octane superhero adventure like Superman, this series leans more towards a gritty, detective-style narrative. The teaser trailer gives us a peek at Pierre’s John Stewart and Chandler’s Hal Jordan as they head to a small town to solve a murder, complete with plenty of banter. However, aside from a brief moment of Chandler soaring through the skies with his ring, the first look offered little in terms of superpowers.
Man of Tomorrow promises a different vibe, with David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult reprising their roles as Clark Kent/Superman and Lex Luthor, respectively, as they face off against the formidable Brainiac. German actor Lars Eidinger has been cast as this alien antagonist.
The film will also see the return of familiar faces from the Superman franchise, including Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), and Maria Gabriella de Faria (The Engineer). It’s still uncertain whether other Green Lanterns, like Chandler’s Hal Jordan and Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, will make an appearance. With a vast corps of Green Lanterns in the universe, it’s just a matter of how many green construct boxing gloves the creative team decides to showcase.
Man of Tomorrow is set to hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
