Clair Obscur Takes Another Step Toward Award Dominance with GDC Win
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has once again taken the spotlight at an awards ceremony. During the recent Game Developers Choice Awards at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, Sandfall Interactive’s RPG snagged five awards, including the coveted Game of the Year.
In addition to Game of the Year, Clair Obscur also earned accolades for Best Debut, Best Visual Art, Best Narrative, and Best Audio.
Meanwhile, Blue Prince, an indie puzzle adventure that invites players to navigate the ever-changing rooms of a vast mansion, secured two awards: Best Design and the Innovation Award.
With this latest success, Clair Obscur has now captured four of the Big Five gaming awards, having previously won Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards, The Game Awards, and the DICE Awards. This achievement places it alongside legendary titles like God of War, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Elden Ring.
If Sandfall can clinch a win at the BAFTA Games Awards in April, it will become only the second game to achieve this milestone, following in the footsteps of Baldur’s Gate 3. While the BAFTA has a reputation for surprising choices in its Best Game category, Clair Obscur is leading the nominations there as well.
The GDC Awards are determined by a panel of industry professionals and editors from an outlet focused on game development. Here’s the complete list of winners.
