Trump Administration Reportedly Secures $10 Billion from TikTok Agreement
In September, Donald Trump stated that the U.S. is set to receive a significant fee for facilitating the TikTok deal. Recent reports indicate that this fee could be around $10 billion, funded by new investors like Oracle and Silver Lake. It’s noted that $2.5 billion was already transferred to the Treasury when the deal was finalized on January 22nd, with the remainder to be disbursed in installments.
This situation highlights the Trump administration’s unusual involvement in private enterprises, which has included acquiring a 10-percent stake in Intel last August, a “golden share” in US Steel, and a 20-percent cut of Nvidia’s chip sales to China. Notably, this deal also features Larry Ellison, co-founder and CTO of Oracle, who is one of Trump’s prominent supporters and fundraisers.
If these reports hold true, the fee would account for over 70 percent of the deal’s total value, as a consortium of investors secured a majority stake in TikTok for $14 billion.
