MindsEye Parts Ways with Developers, Cancels Hitman Crossover Project

The saga of MindsEye, the glitchy third-person action game that debuted last summer, continues to unfold. Recently, it was announced that the collaboration between IOI Partners and developer Build A Rocket Boy has come to an end. This decision follows a round of layoffs at Build A Rocket Boy, which co-CEO Mark Gerhard attributed to a conspiracy.

Once IOI completes the transition of publishing duties back to Build A Rocket Boy, the studio will take on full publishing responsibilities, ensuring that the MindsEye community and its partners experience a seamless transition.

With IOI stepping away from MindsEye, the planned collaboration with the Hitman franchise has also been canceled, which is disappointing news for the small player base that has been engaging with the game recently. It seems that the major “reset” update didn’t have the desired impact. However, Build A Rocket Boy has indicated plans to explore partnerships on future projects, so there may still be opportunities for collaboration down the line.

The future of MindsEye remains uncertain. Its launch was plagued with issues, leading to a series of damage control efforts that only exacerbated the situation. Gerhard has also mentioned that the studio is considering legal action regarding the “criminal activity” that affected the game’s launch.

As for IOI, their next move is clear: the highly anticipated James Bond game is set to release on May 27, following a delay from its original March date. According to cinematic and narrative director Martin Emborg, “[First Light] is about a young man looking for purpose that finds destiny.”
