Star Wars Unveils Exciting New Glup Shittos Characters

Sam Witwer is back as the ex-Sith Lord Darth Maul in *Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord*, hitting Disney Plus on April 4. The latest trailer showcases the fierce Zabrak staying ahead of police detective Captain Brander Lawson and his droid sidekick, Two Boots, while also clashing with menacing Sith Inquisitors like Marrok and the Eleventh Brother.

What really grabbed my attention, though, was the crew of Zabraks armed with rocket launchers, who seem ready to take the fight to the Empire one explosive shot at a time. You might think these alien rebels—possibly remnants of the Zabrak clans struggling to survive on Dathomir—are just faceless cannon fodder, but the official *Star Wars* site has actually given them names: Scorn and Icarus.

Aside from being brothers (with Icarus voiced by the iconic Steve Blum), not much is known about them. However, their design is striking enough to 1) be used to sell toys and 2) likely become someone’s new favorite Glup Shitto.

For those unfamiliar, a Glup Shitto is a term coined by a Tumblr user in 2020, poking fun at *Star Wars* fans who get overly excited about minor characters with quirky names. The joke goes: “every time a new Star Wars movie or show is announced, all the fans are like ‘OMG Glup Shitto is back ????????????’”

*Star Wars* has a long history of silly names that somehow stick with us. Just look at characters like Kit Fisto and Sy Snootles. Even the more serious entries, like *Andor*, can’t resist names like Keef Girgo.

While *Star Wars* often embraces its own absurdity, the term “Glup Shitto” has evolved to refer to obscure characters that only a niche group of fans might recognize. Take Jo from Freetown, who first appeared in *The Mandalorian* and later in *The Book of Boba Fett*. No? You’re not alone—hardly anyone remembers her, but I think she’s awesome and would love to see her again, even if she only had a few minutes of screen time. Why do you ask?

Scorn and Icarus have such edgy names that it’s almost a given that, even if they only get a brief moment in *Maul: Shadow Lord*, something like a comic or spin-off novel will have fans buzzing about their return. This is already happening with characters like Marrok, the Eleventh Brother, and Mandalorian warrior Rook Kast, who first appeared in the 2014 comic *Darth Maul — Son of Dathomir*.

If the idea of *Star Wars* fans getting hyped over obscure characters seems absurd, that’s because it is. Yet, rallying around random Glup Shittos is what brings *Star Wars* fans together, and in a community often divided, that’s a good thing.
