Jim Carrey Returns in First Teaser for Sonic the Hedgehog 4

We still don’t have all the details about Sonic the Hedgehog 4, but one of the biggest questions on fans’ minds is whether Jim Carrey will reprise his role as Doctor Eggman, especially after his dramatic exit in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The first teaser for the film has just dropped, and it not only confirms Carrey’s return but also reveals that Keanu Reeves will be back as Shadow.

While the teaser doesn’t show any actual footage from the film, it features Carrey’s voiceover saying, “You think your world is safe, but your time is about to run out. The chaos has only just begun.” As he delivers this ominous message, we catch glimpses of the Chaos Emeralds, each showcasing flashes of various characters, including Amy, Tails, Knuckles, and Sonic’s human parents, Maddie and Tom. Shadow also makes an appearance, confirming Reeves’ involvement in the sequel.

The major twist here is that Carrey is indeed returning as Eggman, who seemingly met his end in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 while trying to thwart his grandfather’s world-ending scheme. There are whispers that Sonic 4 might explore a different timeline where Eggman has successfully taken over the world. Amy is rumored to hail from this alternate universe, which could explain how Eggman is back in action despite his character’s redemption arc at the end of the previous film.

Joining the cast are Ben Kingsley and Nick Offerman, though their roles remain a mystery for now.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is set to hit theaters on March 19, 2027, and will feature Kristen Bell, known for her roles in Frozen and The Good Place, as Amy.
