One of the standout features of Crimson Desert is its expansive skill tree, brimming with impactful upgrades like new attacks, combos, and enhanced magic abilities—no dull +5 attack boosts here.
However, it’s wise to prioritize your initial Abyss Artifact level-ups on boosting your base stamina and health rather than flashy new skills.
First off, when Kliff respawns, he’s not in peak condition—he’s a bit winded, which means limited stamina. Since stamina is crucial for running, climbing, and flying, increasing it significantly enhances your exploration capabilities. You’ll definitely appreciate the ability to soar across gaps without plummeting to your demise.
More importantly, health and stamina are vital in combat. Boosting your health allows you to absorb more damage, which is useful against standard foes, but it’s especially critical when facing early bosses like Marnie’s Excavatron, Hornsplitter, and Reed Devil. These encounters can be surprisingly tough, especially coming from the developers of Black Desert Online, where you typically steamroll through enemies.
Stamina also plays a key role in blocking enemy attacks (perfect blocks lead to powerful counterattacks) and executing special moves. Techniques like shield-charging, whirlwind spins, and other flashy maneuvers require stamina, and you’ll want to have enough to pull them off effectively. For instance, moves like Swift Stab cost 50 stamina, Charge consumes 30 stamina per second, and Spinning Slash requires 30 stamina. These moves aren’t cheap, so crafting elaborate combos is tough without a solid stamina reserve, especially since you often need to block incoming attacks.
Additionally, focusing on stamina and health is a more efficient use of your precious Abyss Artifacts early on, as you can ‘Observe and learn’ many starting skills for free. A bit of exploration will help you unlock some of the best skills without spending your Artifacts, allowing you to invest in Kliff’s core stats instead. It’s a win-win situation. And don’t forget, you can always respec your skill trees if you change your mind about any Abyss Artifacts you’ve used.
