Discover the New Cave Biome and Mob in Minecraft’s Chaos Cubed Update!
Minecraft’s upcoming Chaos Cubed update for 2026 has been unveiled, and if you’re the type of player who thrives in the depths, this is definitely one to watch. This update aims to enhance the cave systems we already adore, introducing new blocks, areas, and mobs to discover—perfect for those who prefer mining over socializing.
While details are still sparse, including the exact release date, it seems we might be in for a wait. With the Tiny Takeover update set to drop at the end of March, we could be looking at a few months before Chaos Cubed arrives. If it follows last year’s schedule, a mid-June launch seems likely, but we’ll have to keep an eye out for more information as it becomes available.
During the Minecraft Live March 2026 stream, the first features of the Chaos Cubed update were teased, highlighting a brand new cave biome: the Sulfur Caves. These expansive areas will introduce two new blocks—cinnabar and sulfur—adding vibrant colors to the typically gloomy caverns.
Exploring the Sulfur Caves will be an adventure in itself. You’ll encounter pools of water with gas animations, but be cautious; spending too much time in these ponds can lead to a disorienting effect that makes it difficult to escape. The livestream showcased this effect, indicating it intensifies the longer you linger.
You won’t be alone in these caves, thanks to the introduction of a new mob: the Sulfur Cube. At first glance, it seems harmless, bouncing around and waiting for interaction. However, it has a unique ability that’s a first for Minecraft—it absorbs nearby blocks and takes on their properties.
The official blog post from the announcement provided examples, such as ice causing the cube to slide and wood transforming it into a “cubic ball-type thing.” While the full range of blocks the Sulfur Cube can consume hasn’t been disclosed, the prospect of discovering its capabilities and using them creatively—especially for minigames with friends—sounds like a blast.
