Fortnite Introduces New Premium Skins Priced at Double That of Indie Titles
Over the weekend, Epic introduced new skins in Fortnite inspired by the popular indie co-op climbing game, Peak. If you’re looking to rock one of these skins in the battle royale, be prepared to shell out more than double the price of an actual copy of Peak on Steam. Ouch.
On March 21, Epic teamed up with Peak’s developer, Aggro Crab, to bring a range of Peak-themed cosmetic items to Fortnite’s in-game shop. The highlight is a customizable scout skin based on the charming characters from Peak. To snag the basic Peak Scout skin in Fortnite, which includes a few customization options and a backpack, you’ll need to fork over 2,000 V-Bucks. Since 2,400 V-Bucks costs about $23, that puts the 2,000 V-Bucks at roughly $20. In contrast, a single copy of Peak is priced at $8.
Sound the bugle ????
Peak outfits have climbed into Fortnite!
As noted by a Twitter user, if we do some quick calculations, this one Peak-themed skin and backpack costs more than twice the standard price of the indie game it’s based on.
But wait, it gets even more surprising. Peak is currently on sale as part of Steam’s big Spring Sale event, bringing its price down to just $5. This means you could grab four copies of the online co-op climbing game on Steam for the cost of a single skin in Fortnite. That doesn’t seem quite right! Yet here we are. Let’s hope the devs at Aggro Crab see a fair share of the sales.
Additionally, before Epic’s recent hike in V-Bucks prices, the Peak skin would have been around $18. For those keeping score, that’s still significantly more than the cost of Peak. But hey, Epic has expenses to cover and needs that extra cash, right? Let’s show some understanding for the company behind one of the most widely used game engines and the creator of one of the most successful live-service games in recent years.
