Nvidia’s Jensen Huang Claims We’ve Reached AGI Milestone

During a recent episode of a popular podcast, Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang stirred up some excitement by declaring, “I think we’ve achieved AGI.”

AGI, or artificial general intelligence, is a term that has sparked considerable debate among tech leaders and enthusiasts alike, as it refers to AI that matches or exceeds human intelligence. Recently, many in the tech industry have sought to distance themselves from the term, opting for alternative phrases they believe are less sensationalized and more precise, even though these new terms essentially convey the same concept as AGI. This term has also become crucial in high-stakes contracts between major companies, where significant financial implications are at play.

The podcast host defines AGI as an AI capable of “essentially doing your job,” which includes starting, growing, and managing a tech company valued at over $1 billion. When asked about the timeline for AGI’s arrival—whether it’s five, 10, 15, or 20 years away—Huang confidently replied, “I think it’s now. I think we’ve achieved AGI.”

The host remarked, “You’re gonna get a lot of people excited with that statement.” Huang then discussed OpenClaw, an open-source AI agent platform that has gained viral popularity. He noted that users are employing their personal AI agents for various tasks and speculated that it wouldn’t be surprising if someone created a digital influencer or a social app that unexpectedly became a hit, akin to a modern-day Tamagotchi.

However, Huang tempered his earlier enthusiasm by acknowledging that many users tend to engage with these agents for a short period before losing interest. He concluded by stating, “Now, the odds of 100,000 of those agents building Nvidia is zero percent.”
