Pokémon Champions Set to Release in Two Weeks with Switch 2 Upgrade Available at Launch
Pokémon Champions, the latest entry in the monster-collecting franchise, is set to hit the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on April 8, bringing with it some impressive graphical upgrades. This free-to-start title will include a Premium Battle Pass, and players can opt to purchase a Starter Pack that grants immediate access to 50 Pokémon.
First announced last February, Pokémon Champions aims to revolutionize competitive play within the series. It will take the spotlight at major events like the Pokémon World Championships, positioning itself as the primary choice for trainers eager to battle. With just two weeks until launch, we now have a clearer picture of what to expect from the game.
In Pokémon Champions, players can engage in both online one-on-one and double battles, utilizing a classic team of six Pokémon. Mega Evolutions will also be available during fights. The game will offer both Ranked and Casual Modes, along with Online Competitions that feature preset rules on a seasonal basis.
Trainers can import Pokémon using the Pokémon Home app, allowing them to transfer their favorites from various RPGs, including Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Pokémon Go. Additionally, players can recruit new monsters daily within Pokémon Champions, each coming with random stats and movesets for temporary use. Victory Points (VP), earned through battles, can be spent to recruit more Pokémon in a day or to keep them permanently. VP can also be used to enhance monster stats, purchase Mega Stones, and acquire customization items like unique ball-throwing animations.
While Pokémon Champions is free-to-start, details on optional in-game purchases remain somewhat unclear. Players will have the option to buy a Starter Pack that includes 50 Pokémon, extra music tracks, 30 Teammate Tickets, and 50 Training Tickets, though the price is yet to be announced. The costs for the Premium Battle Pass and Membership option are also still under wraps.
Mark your calendars for April 8, as Pokémon Champions launches on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, with the latter boasting enhanced visual performance. There’s currently no information regarding the release of a mobile version of the game.
