Exciting New Star Wars Game Introduces Unexpected Element in XCOM Style Gameplay

In a recent preview of Star Wars: Zero Company, EA’s upcoming turn-based tactical game set in the Clone Wars era, players will have the chance to explore levels from a third-person perspective, reminiscent of Jedi: Fallen Order.

An early version of Zero Company was showcased, revealing insights from the developers at Bit Reactor. One of the standout features is the ability for players to roam around and explore stunning recreations of iconic Star Wars planets, blending action-adventure elements with tactical gameplay.

During story missions, players can wander through environments between the tactical combat segments, creating a unique experience that combines action-adventure moments with turn-based strategy. This approach was a key focus for Bit Reactor founder Greg Foertsch.

“The heart of the game is in the tactical combat,” said animation lead Hector Antunez. “But we really wanted to add an element that allowed players to spend even more time in the Star Wars environments and not have those spaces be limited by what would make for fun combat.”

The idea of allowing characters to explore Star Wars locations between intense combat sequences is exciting. Roaming through digital Star Wars worlds is a highlight for many fans! Coupled with the detail that squadmates will interact and develop relationships between missions, it’s starting to evoke a bit of that Mass Effect vibe, which is definitely a positive.

Star Wars: Zero Company doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet, but EA and Bit Reactor are aiming to launch this tactical Star Wars experience later this year on console and PC.
