Saros Director Avoids Answering If PS5 Game Will Launch on PC
Sony’s upcoming first-party title is Saros, the latest creation from Housemarque, known for their sci-fi shooter roguelike, Returnal. After its PlayStation 5 debut, Returnal made its way to PC two years later. The big question now is whether Saros will follow suit with a Steam release or stay a console exclusive, especially given Sony’s rumored shift away from PC gaming. The game’s director, Gregory Louden, who previously worked at Remedy Entertainment, was tight-lipped when asked about this during a recent interview. He stated, “Today we’re only talking about Saros and the launch on the PlayStation 5.”
This comes amid growing speculation that Sony is scaling back its plans to bring single-player titles to PC. Reports suggest that the company is not looking to release its recent and upcoming hits like Ghost of Yotei and Wolverine on Steam, unlike previous entries in those franchises. The ports have reportedly underperformed compared to Sony’s expectations, though it’s uncertain how much of that is due to staggered release strategies and marketing issues.
There’s a theory that Sony is focusing more on the PlayStation ecosystem, especially with the PS5 dominating this console generation. The potential pullback from PC could also be influenced by Microsoft’s next-gen console plans that support rival storefronts, along with Valve’s Steam Machine, which allows players to enjoy titles like Spider-Man 2 on non-PlayStation hardware. It seems Sony is keen on keeping Saros and similar titles out of that evolving landscape.
