March 26, 2026: We’ve added information on acquiring pet armor.

Figuring out how to get a pet in Crimson Desert will likely be one of your first goals as you explore Pywel. You’ll be greeted by a friendly bulldog when Kliff wakes up on the riverbank. If you can’t resist giving it a pat, you’ll notice that your trust with the animal increases.

Trust is key to the pet system. As you make your way to Fernand city shortly after, you’ll encounter more dogs and cats that you can befriend and adopt as pets. But first, you need to understand how the process works.

To make an animal your pet in Crimson Desert, you need to reach 100 trust with it. For example, when you pet a cat, you’ll see a trust meter on the left side of the screen increase by +5 points.

You might wonder, “Why not just pet the cat 20 times?” Well, aside from the risk of overdoing it, there’s a daily limit on how much trust you can gain through specific actions.

Here’s how it works:

Dogs are easygoing and will eat any meat, while cats have a preference for milk. You can purchase both at the Grocer’s Shop or Butchery in Hernand, located just south of the inn, but feel free to try out other foods as well.

To feed an animal, access your inventory and drop the food item, but be cautious of other animals nearby, as they might snatch it up.

If you can’t make an animal your pet in one day through petting and high-quality food, remember you can pass time to speed up the process.

Once you hit 100 trust, if you’re carrying the animal, set it down and hold E to “Take in.” The animal will then become your pet and will show up in the “Pets” section of your inventory.

Here are some basic rules for pets:

With this knowledge, enjoy making friends with every cat you find in Fernand.

You can also purchase armor for your pets in Crimson Desert. After you gain access to Florindale without being put to sleep by the forest guardians, you’ll find a pet tailor there—there may be others scattered throughout the world, though I haven’t discovered any yet. Once you buy your pet armor, you can equip it by:

Keep in mind that armor is purely cosmetic since your pets don’t engage in combat, but at least they’ll look the part on your adventures or while scavenging battlefield remains.
