Slay the Spire 2’s weakest character receives significant improvements

A new patch for Slay the Spire 2 has dropped on the beta branch, and it’s bringing some exciting changes that players are sure to appreciate. The biggest cheers are likely coming from those who play as The Silent and the Regent’s followers.

The highlight of this update is the reversal of the much-debated Prepare card, which now allows players to draw and discard a card for zero energy once again. Fans were not pleased when the last beta patch made Prepare more costly, as it’s a crucial component for Sly decks that thrive on discard mechanics. Despite the option to opt into the changes, many players voiced their dissatisfaction through negative reviews. Developer Mega Crit reminded everyone that early access is about experimentation, noting that the original Slay the Spire underwent numerous changes before its official launch.

In the latest patch notes, a developer mentioned concerns about the prevalence of Sly deck strategies. However, based on player feedback, Mega Crit acknowledged that Prepare is essential to the deck’s identity. While they’ve reverted the changes to Prepare, the team is still exploring ways to balance the Sly deck’s prominence.

The adjustments to the Regent are also noteworthy, as they come with significant implications for gameplay. This character received several buffs:

– **Falling Star**: Damage increased from 7(11) to 8(12)
– **Glitterstream**: Next Turn Block increased from 4(6) to 5(7)
– **Parry**: Block gain increased from 8(11) to 10(14)
– **Refine Blade**: Forge increased from 6(10) to 9(13)
– **Celestial Might**: Upgrade changed from +2 damage to 1 additional hit
– **Guiding Star**: Now draws cards immediately instead of next turn
– **Sword Sage**: No longer increases the cost of Sovereign Blade
– **Spoils of War**: Now draws 2 cards, but Forge decreased from 12(17) to 5(8)

Opinions on the Regent vary; some find him challenging to master, while others see him as the least favored character. With these buffs, we might see a rise in Regent players.

Keep in mind, this patch is extensive, and not all changes may make it to the final version of the game. I’m hoping the rework of The Silent’s Serpent Form, which now deals 5 HP with each attack, sticks around!

This popular roguelike deckbuilder is developed in Godot, which has implications for piracy as well.
