Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Developer Says They Were Let Go and Replaced by AI

A former developer from Warhorse Studios has revealed that the studio behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 plans to utilize AI for all localization efforts moving forward. This announcement comes amid growing criticism from the gaming community regarding the use of generative AI in game development.

On Saturday, Max Hejtmánek, a Czech-to-English translator and editor, shared on Reddit that he was let go by Warhorse Studios and replaced by AI. This news was unexpected for Hejtmánek, who had been involved in crafting dialogue, quest logs, item names, and marketing content for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and its DLCs.

“On March 27th, 2026, without any prior notice, I was called into a meeting and informed that, in an effort to ‘enhance company efficiency’ and ‘reduce costs’, my role would be rendered ‘obsolete’ starting next month in favor of AI for all translations,” Hejtmánek stated. “This was a huge shock to me, as while discussions about using AI for translation had come up before, I had always been a strong opponent of it, never imagining it would actually jeopardize my job.”

Hejtmánek’s LinkedIn profile confirms his tenure at Warhorse Studios from July 2022 to March 2026, and moderators from the Kingdom Come subreddit have verified his identity. As of now, Warhorse Studios has not publicly addressed Hejtmánek’s claims. Attempts to reach out to a representative for comment have been made, and updates will follow if a response is received.

The integration of artificial intelligence in game development remains a contentious issue. While AI technology is increasingly present at events like GDC, the backlash against its application is often significant. Just recently, Crimson Desert faced criticism for employing generative AI in its in-game art assets.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was released to positive reviews in February 2025 and received nominations for Best Narrative, Game of the Year, and Best Role Playing Game at The Game Awards 2025. Therefore, it’s disheartening to learn that AI will play a role in the creative writing process, even if limited to language translation. Interestingly, the head of Warhorse Studios recently defended Nvidia’s controversial DLSS5 AI technology, suggesting that this shift may not be entirely unexpected.
