UFC Chief Urges Fans to Ignore AI Ads and Focus on the Fights
Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White recently faced questions about the organization’s use of what appeared to be AI-generated promotional images, which sparked a wave of negative reactions from fans. Instead of denying the use of AI tools, White’s response was blunt and confrontational, telling fans to “shut the fuck up” and simply enjoy the product.
During UFC Fight Night 271 in Seattle, Washington, fans noticed a promo image that looked like it was created with AI technology. Some even pointed out previous promotional materials that seemed to have the same AI-generated quality. This upset many fans who felt that, given the UFC’s substantial financial backing, they should hire artists to create quality images rather than relying on AI-generated content that looks hastily produced.
When asked about the backlash, White initially responded with confusion, asking, “What does that mean?” After clarification, his frustration became evident, particularly at the suggestion of hiring artists for the job.
“Give me a fucking break,” White stated. “AI is coming, and if we’re using AI, who gives a shit? People are upset…and we should use artists? How about this: Shut the fuck up and watch the fights.”
It’s important to note that White didn’t deny the UFC’s use of AI; in fact, he seemed to confirm it. Rather than offering a polished response to appease critics, he expressed a sentiment that many CEOs share regarding the integration of AI into their operations: they often disregard public opinion. The message was clear: consume the product and keep the money flowing. While his response may come off as harsh, it reflects a certain honesty, even if it lacks tact, reminiscent of someone frustrated by changing norms.
In a landscape where wealthy companies aim to boost profits by cutting costs and replacing jobs with AI, White’s candid remarks stand out as a stark representation of this trend.
