Exciting New Lego Contest Hints at Major Pokémon TCG Collaboration
A fresh Lego Ideas contest has fans buzzing with excitement as it invites them to create their own designs for sets inspired by Pokémon cards, hinting at a potential crossover between the trading card game and the iconic brick-building brand.
As reported on March 31, the contest, dubbed the “Pokémon Trading Card Game Challenge,” encourages fans to submit their designs for Lego sets ranging from 400 to 2,500 pieces that capture the essence of a dynamic Pokémon TCG card. Each submission must feature a frame that highlights a single Pokémon from a curated list in a creative manner.
Here’s the complete list of Pokémon to choose from:
Alolan Exeggutor, Arceus (Normal-type), Ceruledge, Chandelure, Darkrai, Dragonite, Garchomp, Gardevoir, Gengar, Giratina, Greninja, Gyarados, Hawlucha, Jigglypuff, Joltik, Lucario, Luxray, Machamp, Meowth, Metagross, Mew, Mewtwo, Ninetales, Rowlet, Tinkaton, Torterra, Toxtricity, Tyranitar, Wailord, Zoroark.
Participants have until May 6 to submit their Pokémon Lego card designs on the official contest site. Following this, the Lego Ideas Review Board will evaluate all entries and select up to five designs for a “Fan Vote” round starting May 28. Lego Ideas members will then have the chance to vote for their favorite design until June 11. Once the votes are tallied, the winning design will be transformed into an actual Lego set available for purchase in the future.
Having held the Pokémon license for about a year, Lego has already released several sets based on the games and animated series. However, this contest marks the first direct collaboration with the Pokémon TCG. Many fans are hopeful that this will lead to a series of card-inspired builds featuring various Pokémon. There’s also speculation about whether these sets will include cards based on the TCG, which, if confirmed, could make them highly sought after among collectors, complicating the hunt for these future releases.
