Pokémon Legends: Z-A to Receive Pokémon Home Support, Though with Some Restrictions
Nearly six months after the launch of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, a highly anticipated feature is finally on the way. This week, Pokémon Home will be updated to support Pokémon Legends: Z-A, allowing players to transfer Pokémon from previous titles into this latest adventure. However, there are some important details to consider before you start moving your favorite Pokémon into Lumiose City.
Only Pokémon that are already part of Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s Pokédex can be transferred into the game. As with earlier Nintendo Switch titles, you cannot transfer Pokémon back from Pokémon Legends: Z-A. For instance, your Totodile from Legends: Z-A can be sent to Pokémon Home, but it cannot be moved back to Pokémon Scarlet or Violet.
Additionally, any Pokémon transferred to Legends: Z-A from earlier games cannot return to their original titles. For example, if you send your Galarian Slowpoke from Pokémon Sword or Shield to Home and then to Legends: Z-A, you will lose the ability to transfer it back to Sword or Shield.
Pokémon Home will undergo maintenance starting Wednesday, April 1, at 8 p.m. EST to implement this new functionality for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, with the process expected to take about 12 hours. Once the maintenance is complete, you can start transferring your Pokémon, but remember that these transfers are one-way only.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A was released last October. While I had a great time playing it, I felt that despite its changes to the traditional Pokémon formula, such as real-time battles, “Pokémon Legends: Z-A is as familiar as any other Pokémon title.” It received an expansion in December 2025, but even the New Mega Evolution battles don’t quite elevate Mega Dimension, as much of the DLC experience is bogged down by excessive grinding.
