Top Pranks of April Fools’ Day 2026: The Hits and Misses

Welcome to the most chaotic day on the internet! As Chaim Gartenberg noted years ago, the mix of brands and a day dedicated to pranks rarely leads to anything good. If your company has a social media presence, an online platform, or an AI chatbot in 2026, you really have four choices for April Fools’ Day:

– Skip the April Fools’ joke altogether. Instead, invest your time and energy into something that genuinely benefits the world (or, on a more practical note, your business). Sometimes, doing nothing at all is better than wasting resources and mental effort on a prank.

– Pull an April Fools’ “joke,” but actually deliver on your stunt. This might not be a traditional prank since you’re creating a real video game skin or an actual product for sale, but at least it doesn’t harm anyone.

– Execute an April Fools’ joke, but make it crystal clear from the get-go that it’s just a silly joke and you have no plans to follow through. Does this undermine the essence of an April Fools’ joke since you’re not really “fooling” anyone? Definitely. (Refer back to my first two points.)

– Deceive your customers by successfully convincing them you’re launching a product, rebranding, or offering a service that doesn’t exist. This approach will likely frustrate everyone once the truth comes out, all for the minimal gain of pointless publicity. The saying goes that there’s no such thing as bad publicity, but the long list of companies that have embarrassed themselves proves otherwise.

So far, we’ve seen some socks that are impossible to misplace, Snapchat’s “Reals” taking a jab at Instagram’s copycat approach, and the monitor accessory that every cat seems to want.

If you come across anything that stands out for good, bad, or just plain weird reasons, let us know!
