Star Wars’ Maul: Shadow Lord Animated Series Confirmed for Season 2
The upcoming animated series, Maul — Shadow Lord, is set to launch on April 6 and dives deep into the lore of the infamous Sith warrior, Darth Maul. In a bold move for a Star Wars project, Lucasfilm’s president and chief creative officer, Dave Filoni, has already confirmed a second season before the first has even premiered.
This series takes place after Maul’s supposed demise in The Phantom Menace and his resurrection with spider-like legs in the Clone Wars, but before his latest defeat in Star Wars: Rebels. Shadow Lord follows Maul, voiced by Sam Witwer, as he strives to establish a criminal empire by dismantling organized crime on the planet Janix. The show introduces a variety of new characters and unveils fresh insights into Maul’s backstory. Following his appearance in The Phantom Menace, interest in Maul has surged, leading to his involvement in several Star Wars comic arcs, as well as his roles in Clone Wars and Rebels. Maul — Shadow Lord marks the first series to focus on this complex Sith apprentice, his schemes, and his relentless quest for an apprentice who meets his high standards.
While Filoni hasn’t disclosed a timeline for the second season or its release date, updates are expected in the coming months as the first season rolls out. The 10-episode inaugural season of Maul — Shadow Lord will premiere on Disney Plus on April 6, featuring a two-episode launch. Following that, new episodes will be released in pairs every Monday leading up to Star Wars Day on May 4.
