The fiercest rebel in Star Wars is set to receive his long-awaited spinoff.
In honor of the 10th anniversary of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, a fresh lineup of one-shot comics is set to launch, focusing on some of the most intriguing characters from that era. From May to September, fans can expect single issues spotlighting Cassian Andor, Jyn Erso, Chirrut and Baze, Darth Vader, and Saw Gerrera, who will take center stage for the first time in a comic.
The Saw Gerrera issue, like the other Star Wars prequel one-shots, features a cover by artist David Marquez, known for his previous work on the main Star Wars series. Written by Marc Bernardin, who is also behind the upcoming Mace Windu miniseries, and illustrated by Gabriel Guzman, this issue explores Saw’s journey in the aftermath of The Clone Wars, set a decade before the events of Rogue One.
This story promises to delve into Saw’s intricate moral compass as he embarks on a mission deep within enemy territory. Tasked with uncovering crucial intelligence from the heart of the Empire, Saw faces tough choices that will test his resolve.
Saw is renowned for his unwavering commitment to dismantling the Empire, often clashing with the broader Rebel Alliance. The loss of his sister Steela during their fight against Separatist forces only intensified his dedication. He took in the young Jyn Erso after she was separated from her parents, but ultimately left her behind in pursuit of what he believed was a greater cause. Jyn, grappling with the pain of his betrayal, also features in this series as she attempts to rescue a frightened young prisoner of the Empire.
Saw’s methods, which can be seen as either heroic or terrorist, have put him at odds with nearly every faction in the galaxy, including himself at times. While some Star Wars fans find his character perplexing, others admire his complexity. This one-shot is sure to provide deeper insight into Gerrera’s multifaceted and often contradictory moral landscape.
