Unreleased File from Resident Evil 4 Remake Sparks New Leon Wife Theory

Resident Evil enthusiasts are still buzzing with speculation about Leon Kennedy’s potential marriage after he was spotted wearing a wedding ring at the end of Resident Evil Requiem. Director Koshi Nakanishi seems to be reveling in the chaos among fans, yet he hasn’t dropped any hints about who Leon’s spouse might be. In the meantime, a mysterious cut file from the 2023 Resident Evil 4 remake has emerged, fueling further theories.

This file first gained attention online in 2024, featuring a photo of an older Ashley that players couldn’t normally access in the game. A user noted, “This is 100% a real photo made by Capcom. It has since been removed from the full version of the game (released March 24, 2023) and only exists in the chainsaw demo version (released March 10, 2023). The picture is located in Hunnigan’s office, accessible via freecam.”

Before the release of RE9, fans were puzzled about the need for a photo of an aged Ashley in her 40s and why it was seemingly buried by removing all related content. Now, however, it seems to point toward the possibility that Leon may have married Ashley. One user remarked, “Before RE9’s release, we were racking our brains wondering why they needed a photo of an aged Ashley in her 40s for files, and why they tried so hard to hide it by deleting any content associated with it, but now it’s all clear as day.”

Adding to the intrigue is the notion that Capcom intentionally obscured this clue. As another user pointed out back in 2024, “I don’t know why Capcom took it down, but they did. And I’d say they did a damn good job of hiding that pic so far, because currently so few people know about it even though it was shown almost two years ago. Of course, I have my hopes, but honestly, it could mean nothing. I’m up against immeasurable odds.”

It’s possible that it could lead to nothing at all. Fans who are against the idea of Leon ending up with Ashley are hoping this is just another case of datamined speculation getting out of hand. Nakanishi is likely enjoying the ride as the theories continue to swirl.
